MINTY CLEAN 1970 first pressing vinyl ...

***STILL IN ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINK WRAPPER*** and ...mint, pristine original 1970

Time and a Word is a great album. It is psychedelic oriented and the songs are good, though they may not appear to be very Yes like. Tony Kaye is the highlight of this album, with his powerful Hammond. The power of the rhythm section is very good too. Unfortunately Yes didn´t keep this power in the later albums. The blend of the powerful psychedelic and the rich symphonic rock would be exceptional. Do not expect pure symphonic prog here but more of a blend of psychedelia with symphonic prog.

No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed has a good organ riff and a powerful bass. Besides this, the guitar is very acid and interesting. There are some arrangements in the beginning and in the middle of the song, that only add some different flavour to the music.

"Then" is a good song with great drumming and organ play. There are some odd strings creating a strange, but interesting effect. The organ is very good. There is an interesting bass and brass passage, with a later guitar and organ solo. Progressive leanings are everywhere in this song, with many structure changes.

"Everydays" starts quiet with few instruments and soft vocals, but then the organ and the orquestra start a interplay during the verses, that remain somewhat quiet. There is a great instrumental interlude that starts with a drum and organ riff. Then a frenetic solo with powerful bass, wicked drumming, great guitar solo and crazy hammond organ. The overall sound is somewhat strange, but very interesting. Then the main verse returns with some participation of the backing arrangements and a good closing lead by drums and hammond.

"Sweet Dreams" is the major hit of the album, with interesting organ and bass riff. The song is upbeat. This song is more 'accesible' oriented. There is some great guitar and organ interplay.

"The Prophet" starts very well with hammond organ soloing. Then comes strings, giving a haunting mood to the song, which is dispersed after the start of the main riff, with good organ, bass and drums. During the verses there are some different parts, including some with strings and some with good bass and guitar. The instrumental passages are very interesting, varied. The song is very crazy and good.

The next song, "Clear Days", is somewhat symphonic, with beautiful piano and orchestra strings. The vocal melody is mellow and beautiful. It is a short and clever ballad between the psychedelic craziness mixed with a progressive symphonic sound.

"Astral Traveller" starts with great drum, guitar and organ intro. The bass riff during the verse is powerful. The organ solo after the first verses is very good. Then the bass, the guitar and at last the drum follows the organ. Then there is another organ riff and a great guitar solo provided by Banks. The varied solos and riffs are great, mainly the guitar and the organ.

The last track, "A Time and A Word" is a good tune with great bass and guitar. The song has a good melody. The organ and orchestral arrangements are beautiful, as are the vocals in the chorus. A great end for a strong overlooked album, that grows with repeat plays...
