Cookin’ with the Miracles" is by far the hardest to find of all Miracles early albums (and - sure enough - now it is also the hardest one to find on compact disc). The album is interesting for more than one reason: first, it lacks charting hit singles, so many people are unaware of the nature of the material, which is nothing short of amazing! Secondly, the album sports some of the most intense and raw R&B vocal acrobatics Smokey & the Crew ever attempted: The result is one smoldering R&B piece, which is a must for any early Motown collector. And then, there is that classic, hilarious, to-the-point cover showing the six Miracles with their pots and pans. For my money, this is the best R&B album cover, ever!

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The album comes with its original, 'rice paper' inner sleeve (typically used in the 50’s and very early 60’s) which has - apparently with success - shielded the vinyl from the harmful impact of elements over many years! We believe that, despite great technological progress, these early 'rice paper' inner sleeves provided a degree of protection MUCH HIGHER than any other material used ever since.

(d)          Stereo pressings of this album are not known to exist

(e)           Small writing (previous owner’s name) noted on one of the labels

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ONLY ABOUT GOOD+ (G+).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a large (and somewhat distracting) cutout corner

-        Cover has some visible ring wear; On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 7.

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover has some visible fraying/tattering on the top seam and spine

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has a few small 'bumps' (dents) along the spine

-         Cover has some writing on its back side (name of the previous owner written in thin green marker, about ½ x 2 inches in size)

-         Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its back side (a small filing code written in one corner)

-         Back cover has some light yellowish stains, probably from exposure to humidity (nothing significant)

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / dinged

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         Back cover has a small peel-off mark, probably from the careless removal of the price sticker (less than ¼ square inch in size) and a smaller peel-off mark (about 1/8 sq. inch) on the front panel

-         Cover has all three seams (top, bottom and spine) partially split,  as follows:

-         Top seam: between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters.

-         Bottom seam: between 1 and 2 inches  / 2.5 to 5 centimeters.

-         Spine: between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No wrinkles or creases

-        No stamps

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
