Description
This is an original U.S. pressing copy of the Monkees' soundtrack LP to the movie Head, released (like the film) in 1968. The film, a surreal send-up of the group's stardom made right after their TV show was cancelled, is a fascinating period piece. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, it flopped at the box office (it ran counter to what Monkees fans expected of the group, and the counterculture wasn't buying it), and both the soundtrack LP and the single released from it, the Goffin-King penned "Porpoise Song," failed to catch on as well. The record mixes brief snippets from the film with songs. Highlights among the latter include Michael Nesmith's rocking "Circle Sky" and Peter Tork's trippy "Can You Dig It?" along with the aforementioned single. The LP came with a Mylar foil front cover slick (which reflected the buyer's head back at them). It is in fine condition with some light scraping and scuffing, and the jacket itself has just a little light corner and edge wear -- overall EX+. The disc has a few fingerprints and stains, and some light scraping, scuffing, and loss of glossiness, and it plays with a steady hiss that is audible between tracks and in quieter passages, and occasional light crackling (VG+). The record comes with the original label inner sleeve.
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
If you'd like to order multiple items, I'll happily combine them so that you won't have to pay multiple shipping charges.
