Description

COULD THIS BE ONE OF THE RAREST XMAS RECORDS IN THE WORLD?!?!?! It is an 45 rpm acetate of THE MOONGLOWS, Hey Santa Claus / Just A Lonely Christmas. Originally on the Chance label on red vinyl, mint copies fetch around $3000. Since no copy has ever been found on black vinyl this is as close as you'll get. Possibly 1 of a kind. Recorded at the Sanders Recording Studios in New York.  The handwritten (in blue ink pen) titles on the label say: Side No. 1 "Hey Santa Claus" Side 2 says "Just A Lonely Christmas" Moonglows and Chance also 1953. The vinyl is pretty much scratch free, just a few paper scuffs here and there, it has retained it's high gloss and looks amazing. The labels are also very nice. The Hey Santa side has no rips or tears some very, very light staining (see scan) The Just A Lonely Christmas side looks even better but has 3 super smalls tears on the bottom left side of the inside hole but they are all still glued down and very tight. Both labels have some minor bubbling due too much glue underneath them, but the labels are still very tight. The dark blue at the top appears almost black in the scan but is actually a nice cobalt blue. Both sides play very nice, the Hey Santa side starts off with a few light pops in the lead in groove and as soon as the music starts it stops popping. Not sure why it pops I don't see any marks or scratches. Then in the 1st 1/3 of the playing time it has some very light pops but nothing that distracts from the music. Once again I'm not sure why it pops there are no scratches. Right before the sax break it pops 3 or 4 times because it has a very small imperfection in the vinyl (nothing major) The rest of the record plays great. It's amazing how hiss and crackle free this is. In the final trail off it is perfectly quite!!! The ballad side starts off with 6 or 7 seconds of minor hiss or slight distortion and then plays great & quite the rest of the way through except for 1 or 2 light pops. Normally I wouldn't even mention the pops or go into such detail but I feel this 45 is very rare and should be represented properly. Lets call it a strong vg+. I also compared both songs to my Flamingos Meets The Moonglows cd and both songs are exactly the same, so they are the released versions and not alternate takes. What a great find, probably the greatest 2 sided Xmas record of all-times and possible one of the rarest. OH YEAH, I found this buried in a bunch of Xmas 45's that I just bought last year from a store in New Jersey. I started this 45 at $1499.99, then I lowered it to $999.99, this will be the last time it is listed. It will go back in the collection if it doesn't sell this time. 1st class shipping in the U.S is $3.00. Optional insurance is based on the final price.
