Boston trio Morphine's 1992 album Good returns with positive charge: it's a reminder of their signature "low rock" sound built around Mark Sandman's two-string bass, Dana Colley's baritone sax, and Billy Conway's inventive drumming. Punchy-as-heck opener 'Good' and smoky 'You Speak My Language' weave blues, rock, and jazz into taut, groove-driven compositions, ensuring a nobly grievous, narcotic sound with echoes of dark chamber jazz and post-punk. The record was rejected by every major label to which it was brought before finding success on small imprint Boston.
