THIRD ALBUM from this highly respected British rock institution although at the time of release the band were struggling to keep afloat despite being signed to scene makers Island records. Produced, rather oddly, by Guy Stevens who decided to leave the guitar out of the mix, the album comes across as a rather subdued affair - all sort of rural and countryfied (but not country) with the closest comparison being Dylan circa 'Desire' or 'Blood On The Tracks', a fact underscored by Ian Hunter's croaky vocal and spiky guitar work from Mick Ralphs.
To be fair, this album although out of step with Mott's grand plan, makes for pleasant listening, a catch yer breath sort of vibe although any thoughts of zoning out compleletly are ruined by the inclusion of a massive ten minute long live version of 'Keep A 'Knockin' which fairly romps home to the finishing line.

This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
Pressing: Island, UK, 1971 - orig pink rim Island label
Vinyl: Superb clean and shiny condition. A couple of visible spindle marks on labels but no other signs of use. Grades as top MINT-!
Cover: Again, virtually no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated gatefold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is perfectly square- stiff, straight and totally uncrushed. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 44 years after release. Grades as MINT!
