Description
This is a very good original U.S. pressing copy (an American Record Pressing per the runout matrix #s) of the debut LP by Long Island hard rock/heavy metal group Mountain, released in 1970. The group was centered on ex-Vagrants guitarist Leslie West and former Cream producer/collaborator Felix Pappalardi, who played bass and keyboards. Pappalardi had previously produced the Vagrants' singles, and worked with West on his 1969 solo LP, Mountain, from which this group took their name. Their debut features their best known song and only hit, the heavy belter "Mississippi Queen," along with "Theme from an Imaginary Western" (sung by Pappalardi and co-written by Cream bassist Jack Bruce) and the unsuccessful follow-up single "For Yasgur's Farm" (where the Woodstock festival was held: the group played there). The unipak jacket has a couple of small tears along one of the spines, corner wear, light ring and seam wear, and a 4” crease in one corner on the back cover (EX-). The disc has a few dings and a fair amount of hairline scraping, and plays with light surface noise and some crackling audible in the LP’s few quieter tracks (VG+).
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
