MU

MERRELL FANKHAUSER, JEFF COTTON, RANDY WIMER, LARRY WILLEY

One of the most interesting cult figures in rock history, Fankhauser's best work came as the leader

of several interesting groups during the '60s and early '70s: the Impacts (instrumental surf),

Merrell & the Exiles (solid British Invasion-style rock), Fapardokly (great Byrds-ish folk-rock),

the H.M.S. Bounty (fine late-'60s folk-rock), and Mu (spaced-out progressive blues/psychedelia)

rim text reads "Fabricado e distribuido no Brasil por SOM - IND. E COM. S/A."

On back cover:

"MU recorded this album late in 1971. Release was delayed because of the reticence

of the major record companies to release what they thought to be an 'un-commercial' album.

Eventually the album was released on a small Los Angeles label and made available locally..."

This album serves as an introduction to a group who will be making much

fascinating music in the years to come.

One of the best overlooked albums of the early '70s.

Daring rhythms and song structures that build off the blues without following

the standard three-chord/12-bar progressions, occasional modal jazzy sax by Cotton,

and great slide guitar combine to form one of the most unclassifiable recordings of the time,

with a high-spirited lightness that avoids the heavy excesses

that sometimes burdened late-period psychedelia...(AllMusic)
