Neumeyer & Collegium Terpsichore - DANCE MUSIC FROM THE TIME OF PRAETORIUS - Heavy Vinyl Audiophile Edition - Archiv 198 166 - TAS - STUNNING!! - Factory Sealed
Probably one of the most fun TAS picks on the entire list, in my view.
Released on Archiv, it contains dance music from the time of Praetorius (1600s) played on period instruments. But, really, it is so much more.
Lively, and full of wonderful melodies, I must tell you, there is an instrument here, it's a keyboard, that has quite a remarkable sound. To these ears, it sounds as if the keys play a very small-scale organ, almost flutelike in nature but with a touch more tonal heft. Anyway, it truly sounds as if it is being played right in your room, it is so crystalline in sonic nature. Quite startling, actually.
Now for the best part:
This is a factory sealed copy of the original, but re-mastered through Cello electronics (of Mark Levinson), then pressed on much heavier virgin vinyl.
The end result is increased headroom and a noise floor that might as well be non-existent.
That said, in mixed listening company, please be aware that you yet again will be sitting there with your jaw dropped. (It's not good manners.)
A beautiful, beautiful work, now made even better. (In the top 20 of all records, in my view.)
