Mahalia Jackson – NEWPORT 1958 – Columbia CS-8071 – 6-eye Original – RARE!
An especially fine album, recorded “live” at the 1958 Newport Jazz festival, when Miss Jackson was at her prime, riding high.
Great selections include AN EVENING PRAYER, DIDN’T IT RAIN, I’M ON MY WAY, HE’S GOT THE WHOLE WORLD IN HIS HANDS, HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW, and IT DON’T COST VERY MUCH, among others.
Cover is without fault; original 6-eye platter should play near mint.
Darn near considered one of the best gospel albums of all time...recorded "live" at a jazz festival.
