UNSOLD SHOP STOCK
I am currently in the process of shifting a large collection of stock which comes from a Record Shop which closed its doors in the early 1980s. The stock spans a period from the early 1960s through to the early 80s with the bulk dating from the 1970s. There are large quantities of Folk, Pop, Progressive Rock, R & B and Soul. Most of the items have sustained a single play (clearly standard practice to check for flaws upon receipt of new records back-in-the-day) however, some are obviously unplayed. Material sourced from this collection will be introduced by this paragraph.
ITEM
Stunning American early 70’s Black Label ABC/Dunhill Records Stereo pressing of Mama Cass Elliot’s ‘Make Your Own Kind of Music – It’s Getting Better’ L.P. (apparently this was previously titled ‘Bubble Gum, Lemonade and Something for Mama’) (Catalogue Reference: Dunhill/ABC Records DS 50071). The features a typically decent, heavy-duty American card sleeve and the vinyl pressing still has a certain weight to it which is nice (lets face it some mid-70s American vinyl pressings are so thin they are laughable). It is the weight of the vinyl which makes me believe that this is a pre-1975 pressing although I would never guarantee this. This is a stunning copy!
CONDITION: EXCELLENT+ (VINYL) / EXCELLENT+ (SLEEVE)
The vinyl is still stored in the original ABC/Dunhill Records inner sleeve which is crisp (always a good sign). Upon withdrawing the vinyl from the inner sleeve it is immediately obvious that it has never seen heavy play. Like most of the items from this source I’d guess this might have been played once. Under an intense light there are only a couple of the tiniest hairline marks present which are more likely a result of withdrawal of the vinyl from the reasonably harsh paper inner sleeve than due to play. You’re not likely to locate a better copy. The sleeve is also pretty immaculate. The sleeve has been stored inside a polythene cover it’s whole life which means there has been no loss of the rather vivid pink print. The sleeve is sharp and vivid and looks like it was printed yesterday. The flaws are really quite minor. Each of the corners has received a light knock with the top left-hand corner having perhaps received the most substantial knock which has resulted in a light crease in this corner on the rear of the sleeve and a ‘bend’ to the front of the sleeve. If you look very hard and angle the sleeve under an intense light there is a crease to the opening edge on the front which results from the sleeve being gripped between the fingertips whilst the vinyl was removed. There is nothing else to say. A beautiful copy which doesn’t look over 40 years old!
FINAL COMMENTLike many of the items from this source you simply won’t find a superior copy! Please check my others auctions for a further Mama Cass L.P. (with The Big Three), a run of Mama’s & Papa’s 45s as well as a large selection of Folk, Pop, R n B, Rock and Soul collectables from the same source in similarly immaculate condition! Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from! Overseas buyers welcome!

I have been a collector for nearly 20 years now and regard myself as a conservative and realistic grader with all my items having been graded under an intense light. I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor(!).
