Description

Mankunku Quartet        Yakhal' Inkomo        stereo    WRC ORL 6022  South African original pressing.  

Winston "Mankunku" Ngozi (ts), Lionel Pillay (p), Agrippa Magwaza (b), Early Mabuza (d) Recorded 1968 

 The record looks VG+ and plays VG+ to VG++.  Both sides have a lot of superficial "paper" scuffs, probably caused by unsleeved storage or automatic changer play.  Side 1 has no scratches or deep scuffs.  Side 2,  has a hairline scratch app 1/2 inch near the end of track 1. There are two pops, fortunately between tracks and three light ticks well below the level of the music that are not intrusive.. Record plays with light surface noise that might be due to pressing quality. Music plays strongly and enjoyably without distortion.  Grooves show some play but are not damaged.      

 The cover is VG+.  

    The cover is a lightweight "Euro" style cover.  The front is covered with laminate, but the back is not.  On the front, the laminate is bubbling and is not applied all the way to the pocket, so that a narrow strip is not covered.  On pictures of other copies of the cover that I have seen, the laminate is bubbling also.  It is possible that all copies were made this way. The back cover has moderate wear and ring wear toward the top. No split seams. The spine is intact and readable.  Spots of wear and denting at the corners, especially at top of spine where there is a very tiny piece missing.    

Black lines that might be visible at bottom left and top right in pictures are due to photo cropping and not on cover.


 My highest grade is M- and I rarely grade 50s or 60s records M-. Records are graded visually using the Goldmine system. M-, VG++, VG+, VG, VG- etc. I play grade any potential problem areas.  I attempt to grade conservatively, listing all significant flaws. You will be satisfied.  No hassles.
