I am the artist Val Denham. I did all those Marc and the Mambas and Marc Almond record covers in the early 1980's. Yup! would you believe that it's come to this...........pulling pages out of my sketchbooks for a few bob........sad isn't it. Anyway here are 4 pages from my own sketch book which date from 1983. These are not reproductions or prints! These are original one off drawings done in blue and red pencil. The drawings were very quick sketches done from a freeze frame video of flamenco dancing. I did this to give myself inspiration for the "Torment and Toreros" album cover which came out in the Summer of 1983? I think. I eventually did do a flamenco dancer as Marc suggested, but I based it on my own mother. The drawing of Marc was done in the Some Bizzare offices around the same time. Because the drawings have been in a black book for 23 or so years, they are in superb condition. There is only the tiniest tanning to the very edges of the paper due to it's age. The drawings measure just a little smaller than A4 size, 8 inches by 11 inches. Recently someone sold just one of these type of drawings by myself on eBay and it went for £130!
