Allan Slutsky (Co-producer of Standing in the Shadows of Motown) words on Joe Hunter: “Joe Hunter (Earthy, boogie-woogie; pre-Motown, played for Hank Ballard and Jackie Wilson. Heard on “Do You Love Me?” by the Contours; “Money” by Barrett Strong; “Heatwave” by Martha and the Vandellas; and Marvin Gaye’s “Pride and Joy” and “Hitchhike.”) Joe was the first “funk brother” and unofficial band leader of the early years. He has a bluesy rocker style, very boogie-woogie. He is the very essence of funk as a person—the ultimate storyteller. He steals the show in many ways, bringing these crazy details into the stories he tells.”
