Description
This is a NM double LP box set of the BJR mastering of Maria Callas' June 30 1959 London/Covent Garden performance of Cherubini's MEDEA. The catalog # is BJR 105, so it is one of their first issues and quite rare to come across. The box has some slight wear, but in very good condition, and the LPs are NM, housed in plastic lined sleeves. There is no insert or libretto enclosed. The cast of the opera is:

Glauce--Joan Carlyle
Creonte--Nicola Zaccaria
Neris--Fiorenza Cossotto
Callas is in good voice for this performance, and her portrayal shows the nuances that she acquired in the role after so many years of singing it. This edition of the performance is slightly abrigded with Glauce's opening scene omitted, and one repeat of the hymn in the second act is also omitted. (See the picture of the back of the box). All of Medea's (Callas') music is included.
