Capitol Compact 33
Capitol SXA-2047 - 1964
During the 60s, Capitol issued stereo Compact 33 discs of some of the label’s most popular albums for jukebox play. These 7” records had a small center hold and played at 33 1/3 RPM. These mini-albums were normally had three songs from the album on each side of the disc. The songs featured on the Compact 33 records generally unavailable as commercial singles. The Compact 33s came in a cardboard jacket, which had a miniature reproduction of the album cover on the front and a blank white back.
Capitol produced three Beatles Compact 33s, starting with Meet The Beatles!, released in January, 1964. The Beatles Second Album and Something New were the other two. All three were manufactured by Capitol’s Scranton factory. They were originally issued with 5 blue jukebox title strips and three paper mini album covers.
As these records were intended for jukebox play, they are seldom found in excellent condition.
This auction is for the Capitol Compact 33 for the Beatles first Capitol LP, Meet The Beatles!. The record is in Very Good+ condition, with clean labels and litter wear. The vinyl has some scratches that are not deep and shouldn’t affect play. The cover is Very Good, with considerable ring wear, both front and back, but no writing and the seams are intact. No title strips or mini covers are included.
