Meic Stevens - Bywyd Ac Angau / Life And Death - vinyl album

This is an album I've had in my collection for 16 years. It's Meic Stevens's eighth one and his only one on the Cardigan-based Fflach record label. Unusually, one side of the LP is in Welsh and the other in English. Tracks as listed on the label are:

I believe this was a test pressing / white label used for advance publicity before release because the record had no sleeve and the track listing are bubble-jet printed onto a sticky white computer printer label and the area around the spindle on this label is rough as if the spindle was used to puncture the sticky lable. The sticky computer label itself had been stuck onto a plain white label.

There are some gems on this album. Uncle Victor, for example, is Meic's touching tribute to Cardiff Tiger Bay guitarist Victor Parker. I remember hearing Meic being interviewed about Victor Parker when he spoke of attending his funeral procession. There was a bottle of whiskey on the lid of the coffin as it was taken from pub to pub in Tiger Bay during the Wake before the funeral.

In Ghosts of Solva, Meic sings of his hometown Solva - the Pembrokeshire fishing village.

I don't know how many copies Fflach had pressed but I think this record is really quite rare. What the winning bidder will get is the disc only - there's no cover, because I believe it was a promotional pre-release disc. Postage for this item is a little higher than I normally charge because I may need to insure it if the price goes high. If the final bid is less than I thought, I'll discount the postage and send it normal First Class Royal Mail.

Packing process - I pack items using reclaimed packaging when possible and I try to use mainly recycled materials. :
1.take record and inner sleeve out of outer sleeve, to prevent seam splits during transit
2.bond these two units to a thick homemade stiffener using clingfilm
3. insert packing slip
4. wrap the whole lot in thick, tough brown paper
5. label it clearly and mark it FRAGILE
This is the process I've arrived at thanks to customers' generous advice and feedback. Many of my customers and bidders are real music enthusiasts and collectors. I love to sell my music to people who really appreciate it.

Record Collector (TM) grading system
I'm listing these for your reference:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
