Description
The great Willem Mengelberg conducts his Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam in the renown 1939, Palm Sunday performance of the Bach Matthaus-Passion.
Recorded on flim, the sound of this idiomatic performance is astounding.
This is the "long box" Columbia Masterworks issue SL-179, with the "5th Anniversary Special" label on the front cover. Both the top and lower edges have torn.
The discs are in exceptional condition, are the dark blue Masterworks label, ML 4687 - 4689. They are "bound" in the box with a metal dowel. The libretto is included.
