Description
Merle Johnston's Saxophone Quartet plays "Do Something" and "Baby--Oh Where Can You Be" on Columbia 1923-D. All of Johnston's records are good, but this one is special. Just four saxes -- no rhythm -- playing intricate, inventive arrangements of great tunes with Johnstonian precision. Impress your sax-playing friends with this one.
Merle Johnston (ts), directing 2 as; 1 bar. Recorded in New York on July 26, 1929. The picture of the quartet is from an old magazine and is not included in this auction. On YouTube (not this copy).
This record is in V+ condition visually, but plays mostly E on "Do Something" and between V+ and E- on "Baby."
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
