Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls!
Help Security Jewelers and the city of Duluth kick off the Christmas season and honor the 50th anniversary of WDSM-TV (now KBJR) releasing the song "Christmas City of the North", the song that has become synonymous with Christmas in Duluth! Security Jewelers is excited to offer this one-time opportunity to own an original, never played 45 RPM record of the song.
Not only could you own an iconic piece of Duluth history, but you will also help Bentleyville, a seasonal lighting display in Duluth, MN -- America's largest free, walk-through Christmas lighting display. Bentleyville supports the Salvation Army by providing food and toys to families in need. 100% of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Bentleyville Tour of Lights.
The highest bidder will receive one original 45 RPM record in perfect, never played condition displayed in a museum quality presentation frame. The frame is genuine wood with conservation glass and a beautiful red velvet mat. The highest bidder will also receive one original 45 RPM record in perfect, never played condition to add to their music collection.
Along with the albums, these items will also be included in the auction:
- Dinner for 2 at Grandma's Saloon and Deli before or after the presentation
- Bentleyville swag: Hooded sweatshirt, Latte mug, Ornament, 12 month calendar
- 4 Bentleyville Chocolate bars (6000 bars were made with 5 of those containing golden tickets worth up to $500 in gifts from local merchants. 4 of the 5 golden tickets have been claimed and the bars are sold out.)
The auction will coincide with the 2013 annual Christmas City of the North Parade sponsored by KBJR-TV on November 22nd and the opening of Bentleyvile. The auction will end on Saturday, November 23rd at 5 PM CST during the grand opening of Bentleyville. If the highest bidder lives in the Twin Ports area, they have the option to be presented with the records and prize package at 6 PM inside Bentleyville on Sunday, November 24th. Local radio and TV personality, Duke Skorich, will emcee the event and spin the album for the attendees.
Pressed in 1963 by WDSM, the predecessor to KBJR-TV, these records have been preserved for 50 years and have never been out of their protective sleeves. Bob Rich, manager and owner of TV station WDSM, requested his friend Merv Griffin perform the song written by Don Peterson.
