Metal Massacre Various Artists RARE 1984 Reissue 3rd Version Metallica VG+/VG+.

For auction is a great listeners copy of the heavy metal compilation Metal Massacre. Originally Released in 1982 by Metal Blade Records, Metal Massacre was the first volume in a long-running compilation series (12 volumes released through the ’80s and ’90s) that showcased unsigned and underground metal bands.  It helped popularize thrash and extreme metal and acted as a launchpad for the underground metal scene at a time when major labels ignored it.  The album features the track, "Hit the Lights', the first ever song recorded by legendary band, Metallica.  The first volume had three different versions released from 1982-1984.  This copy is the 3rd version released in 1984 that has nine tracks instead of ten.  The songs, "Tell the World" by Ratt and "Cold Day in Hell" by Steeler were omitted because both bands had signed with major labels while the track "Chains Around Heaven" by Black 'n Blue was added.  The Metallica song, "Hit the Lights" was re-recorded for this version with guitarist Dave Mustaine on lead instead of Lloyd Grant.  Mustaine was featured as rhythm guitarist on the original while Grant soon left the group and is not included on this pressing.  Also, on the original version, Metallica is misspelled (Mettallica) which was corrected on further issues.   
Vinyl is play graded VG+.  There are several light visible surface marks but nothing deep that can be felt.  Plays with faint background noise at times that is far from overwhelming.  No skips or jumps.  Please see pics.
Cover is also in VG+ condition. Some minor shelf wear on corners and seams but no splits.  Title is fully legible.  Small creases along the edges on both sides, most noticeably along the bottom.  Please see pics.
