This item is an EXTREMELY RARE original pressing white label gatefold PROMOTIONAL copy, issued by CBS/Epic Records in 1978. There were very few of these pressed, and they were exclusively for radio stations and key retail and wholesale buyers….not available to the general public. The white label is marked “Demonstration Not For Sale”. There is also a gold embossed “FOR PROMOTION ONLY” stamp on the back cover (see photos).
There is some ring-ware on the back cover and some light wear on the front cover. The spine is in good condition. There is a small surface scratch, but overall the vinyl has retained a nice gloss finish. Label is in excellent condition. The record plays with minimal surface noise and the fidelity is excellent. This record was given to me as a promotional copy in1978 and has been in my personal collection ever since. Prior to a brief spot check, THE RECORD HAD NEVER BEEN PLAYED.
This is an excellent, and very collectable, piece of American pop music history. Arguably, the best album recorded by Michael Jackson. Produced by the great Quincy Jones.
Off the Wall is the fifth studio album by the American recording artist Michael Jackson, released August 10, 1979 on Epic Records, after Jackson's critically well received film performance in The Wiz. While working on that project, Jackson and Quincy Jones had become friends, and Jones agreed to work with Jackson on his next studio album. Recording sessions took place between December 1978 and June 1979 at Allen Zentz Recording, Westlake Recording Studios, and Cherokee Studios in Los Angeles, California.
