RATING SYSTEM.......
Mint (M) = Sealed LP. Never opened.
Near Mint (NM) = Vinyl looks and plays new. Extremely minor to no defects / blemishes. LP jacket also appears new (still in open shrink or appears as if shrink wrap was just removed).
Very Good++ / Near Mint- (VG++/NM-) = Vinyl has been played a handful of times and very well cared for. Under light the vinyl will show a few very minor sleeve scuffs and/or hairline markings. Record will play very quiet. LP jacket is in great condition with very minor blemishes (no splits, no hole punches, no buffing, no seam flaking, no writing, etc.).
Very Good+ (VG+) = A well cared for record. Has obviously been played but cared for. Vinyl will show a smattering of minor scuffs and hairline scratches but none that can be felt. Light crackle / static / click / ticks between tracks. An enjoyable listening experience. Labels are crisp and may have some spindle "spidering" but minimal to no wear to the spindle hole. LP jacket appears crisp with minor blemishes such as corner bumping, light buffing / flaking, minor creasing, hole punch / saw cut, etc.
Very Good (VG) = Record has ample play time but was not abused. A VG record is still enjoyable to listen to. Will have obvious visual scuffs and scratches. A few of the scratches are deep enough to feel with your finger. May have very minor groove wear (minimal to no distortion). Will play with light to moderate static / crackle mostly between tracks and soft passages. May play with several clicks / ticks and/or an occasional soft "pop". Once the music starts to play, any noise should not intrude on the listening experience. No skips or repeats. LP jackets shows light to moderate wear in the form of shelf wear (e.g., ring wear, buffing, flaking and minor seam / spine splits are evident, minor writing, etc.).
Very Good- (VG-) = A well played record that still holds its own. Visually inspection notes numerous scuffing and scratches. Scratches that can be felt are more prevalent than with a VG record. Vinyl plays with moderate static / crackle. Will play with several ticks / clicks / pops that may be moderate in nature (versus soft). VG- record will show groove wear with perhaps some distortion during playback. Record will not skip or repeat. Jackets have obvious signs of moderate to heavy shelf / ring wear including multiple seam splits, etc.
Good (G) = Records graded "good" are heavily played records which were not well handled or cared for. Playback results in heavy static / crackle, and numerous loud clicks / ticks and "pops". Although the Goldmine standard defines "G" graded records as not skipping or repeating, my experience has shown that the record may skip or repeat. Most people would not consider putting these records on their turntable in fear of damaging their stylus. These types of records should only be collected if the vinyl is very rare and thus highly collectible. LP jackets graded as good are well worn and not presentable.
Fair / Poor = Any record graded Fair or Poor are in unplayable condition and LP covers are in extremely tattered condition. Playing the record is certainly out of the question. Unless the record is very, very collectible, records in this condition are considered junk vinyl and worthless.
