Description

This is a VERY rare Microphones LP!!

"Little Bird Flies Into A Big Black Cloud" (IVES 3), the sonic version of an even more limited edition story booklet by the same name, was pressed in a limited edition of 400 copies in 2002. It features Phil Elvrum alone on vocals and organ -- there are 18 untitled tracks. According to the liner notes, "the recordings on this record were made on February 2nd, 2002 (02/02/02!) at 2 in the afternoon until about 2:40 in the afternoon, pretty much straight through, at Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, Wash."

Tiny Mix Tapes gave the album five stars and said "Little Bird reflects Elvrum at his most sincere, and perhaps, his most vulnerable. It's incredibly intimate; you can't help but feel as if you are staring over the shoulder of a man writing the rough draft of a magnificent novel."

All copies have unique covers, letterpressed and hand watercolored on the backs of recycled LP covers. This copy was painted on the back of a Simon Joyner EP cover and features the image of a man and the words "Whistling misty mountains I love you".

I bought this at a show in 2002, and it's barely been played and carefully handled since. Everything is in perfect condition.

These RARELY pop up on Ebay or Discogs, as they were such a limited pressing and sold out very soon after the 2002 release.  Released between "The Glow, Pt. 2" and "Mount Eerie", it's one of the last and rarest records that Phil Elvrum released under the Microphones moniker, and an essential piece of the transition from the Microphones to Mt. Eerie.  You'll recognize many of the songs and lyrics from those two records.
