Description
Artist & Album Description: A Tribute to Jack Johnson is a studio album by American jazz musician Miles Davis, released in 1971 on Columbia Records as the soundtrack for a documentary about the heavyweight world champion boxer Jack Johnson.
Miles, constantly experimenting, delivered this haunting album. Two long tracks “Right Off” and “Yesternow”, both constructed from several takes, were assembled in the editing room by producer Teo Macero. Artists (ref. Discogs) included John McLaughlin on guitar, Herbie Hancock on organ, Michael Henderson and Billy Cobham.
Record Grading and Condition: VG (Very Good) There seems to be no visible scratching and the record plays OK with some surface noise.
Sleeve Grading: VG+ (Very Good) There is a small amount of scuffing at the corners, and the notes sides show a small amount of discoloration due to age. The interior sleeve is labelled CBS. The sleeve notes are written by Miles Davis, and the package includes an A3 Colour poster of him in a boxing ring (see photo).
Label & Authentication: “Original Soundtrack Recording JACK JOHNSON Director: William Cayton” “Made in England”.
Note to intending buyers: This posting is from a collection of Jazz Vinyl LPs of varying quality and rarity, this one bought in the early 1970s, then stored until now.
