Extremely hard to find white label promo copy of Miles Davis' "Nefertiti" album in mono.

This album was issued commercially in January 1968, about twenty minutes after monophonic records were phased out completely and for good. However, the promotional copies for this album were prepared in 1967, resulting in the only existing format on vinyl of the mono mix. I did some research over the last few days to see if I could find any reissues of the mono mix in this or any other country. There very well might be a reissue that I missed, but I sure can't find any evidence that this mix has been made available since 1967. If anyone out there knows of another mono issue, please tell me so that I can revise my listing. I am not in the business of misleading people.

No mono covers were manufactured that I could find. Although the cover includes a mono catalogue number assigned to this title, I absolutely could not find a mono copy either for sale or listed in discographies. I did see two other examples on the internet of the mono promo, and both had stereo covers. One had a timing strip. These two copies were in discographies and were not for purchase. This cover is moderately to heavily worn. You can see in the photos that both the front and back covers have wear, especially ringwear. There are little droplet stains near Miles' forehead. There is a name written vertically on the back cover in the left margin near the bottom. The top and bottom seams are split about a quarter of the way, and there is missing slick. The spine is worn and missing slick at each end.

The vinyl presents well visually. Side 1 has numerous light scratches and one long scuff. See photo. Side 2 looks like it has seen very little play. It has far less scratches than side 1 does. Playback is noisy on both sides. There is no doubt that this copy plays with surface noise. If you're of the older generation of vinyl lovers like myself, there is a certain charm and emotional memory to this kind of surface noise. But if you're an audiophile, this copy will sound to you like someone being applauded for frying bacon in the rain during the recording sessions. Side 2 is definitely a quieter play than side 1 is, but it still has surface noise. The mono sound reproduction is still brilliant and deep. You still can hear the wonderful back-to-front information rather than the left-to-right. And of course, anyone familiar with Columbia's mono records will know that the highs are crisp.

The labels are beautiful, free of dirtwear and spindle marks. But there is a name written on the side 1 label. See photo. Inner sleeve is plain white and solid with no round window for the label.

This mono mix is all but extinct. If it is true that it hasn't been issued since 1967 as a promo, then you're not likely to find another copy very soon if at all, so consider this one.
