Miles Davis – 'Round About Midnight (Columbia CL 949) Authentic 1957 Mono First Pressing – "Six-Eye" Deep Groove Label
At Blue Station Jazz, we provide "Reference Grade" vinyl audits on a J. Sikora Standard Max turntable with a DS Audio optical cartridge. This is a verified first-year production run featuring the legendary -1A lacquer on Side 2—the earliest possible cut from the original master tapes.
Surface Quietness / Playback Background: [VG++] This copy performs exceptionally well, far exceeding its visual grade. Our audit confirms an "Excellent" background; while there are typical, light background ticks and pops consistent with a 1957 pressing, they are never distracting and do not interfere with the music. A remarkably clean-playing copy of a 69-year-old record.
Sonic Fidelity / Mastering Presence: [A+] Simply a fantastic sounding album. The mono focus is laser-sharp, providing an intimate, "in-the-room" presence for Miles’s trumpet. The dynamics are powerful with a fantastic, strong bottom end that modern reissues struggle to replicate. This is a definitive reference copy for the mono-purist.
Jacket Condition: Graded Good. Please note a large (5 to 6-inch) seam tear on the top edge, wear along the front of the spine and front cover, and ring wear on the back cover.
