Released in March of 1957 Mono Columbia CL949 6 eye Red Label Deep Groove
Featured on this album is, John Coltrane, Paul Chambers, Red Garland & Philly Joe Jones.
Round About Midnight is widely recognized by jazz critics as a landmark album in hard bop & one of the greatest jazz albums of all time. This Album was to be Miles first album for his new Label - Columbia.
The Miles Davis tone - soft, rich, intimate in it's breathy warmth - is one of his most immediately recognizable characteristics.
Cover - VG++ condition - Strong & Sturdy, with minimal ring wear, it does have a couple of light bumps and under a 1/2" split on upper right hand corner. Other than that, this cover is in great shape. No tears, no writing or tape on cover.
Vinyl - VG++ condition - Visually checked under bright light & found a few scuff marks & light scratches, none of which can be felt. Played tested the album, heard occasional crackling sound and on side 2, 1st song, heard a ticking sound midway through that lasted approx. 7 seconds and then never heard it again, might be due to needs cleaned. No skipping, no popping and no hesitation. Record plays very nicey. I believe the crackling sound is due to the record needing cleaned. It has sat on a shelf for many years. I do not have the proper equipment to clean this record and I don't want to damage it by trying to clean it. But it does not take away from the beautiful music being played at all.
Condition of this Album is not of an expert opinion but, of my own opinion. This record is a small part of my dad's huge Jazz collection.
