AUTOGRAPHED BY MILES DAVIS IN DETROIT IN THE 1950's
Many of my elderly hard core bebop customers knew Miles while he was living briefly in Detroit. They all agree that Miles was a man of very few words.This is one of several autographed items I have handled over the past few years. All of these were simply signed "Miles Davis". This lp was bought from an 80 year old's collection who knew all the Detroit bebop artists of the 50's. He also had occasion to meet Miles Davis several times. In fact at one point Miles was staying in the back of a tiny local Detroit record store. I am 100% sure that this is an original autograph because of the circumstances in which it was acquired. Other material such as photographs, more autographs (Yusef Lateef, Tommy Flanagan.....), handbills, cardboard show posters and period phonograph records were also acquired at the same time. I had occasion to talk to the deceased owner of this autograph many times and was told stories of meetings with Miles Davis and other famous jazz musicians in the 50's. This was a time when you could see them play in local Detroit rooms holding 100 or less people (The Bluebird Inn, The Minor Key, The Flame, The Drome etc).
DISC: is in GOOD or possibly GOOD MINUS. It plays pretty good but there are a lot of scattered scuffs and light scratches. It has been expertly cleaned and is ready to play.
COVER: VG MINUS. Cover is split down 2 sides and has some staple holes. Lots of pics posted (please look)
The cover could be repaired, a new disc could be found but the main value to someone should be the autograph, which is authentic. The price is the only question.
