Miroslav Vitous – Purple 1974 CBS/Sony Japanese Reissue Jazz, Fusion
Miroslav Ladislav Vitouš is a Czech jazz bassist. In 1970, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, and Vitouš formed the founding core of the jazz group Weather Report. Prior to this he had played with Miles Davis and numerous other top jazz, Jazz/Fusion artists, for example, Herbie Hancock, Herbie Mann, Roy Haynes, Chick Corea, Billy Cobham and John McLaughlin. 1970 saw Vitouš continue as bandleader as he recorded 'Purple' for Columbia, supported by McLaughlin, Cobham and the keyboardist and fellow Davis alumni Joe Zawinul.
The custom printed unlaminated, card sleeve would certainly conservatively grade as EX+. It does show signs of handling and storage wear (minimal corner rubbing/bumping) and very little ring and edge wear. The spine is readable and the entry edge shows minimal signs of use.
The original polythene inner is undamaged and easily grades as EX+. There are no Japanese liner notes with this item.
The vinyl is without doubt EX+ to NM and has not been played much - if at all. The Columbia/Sony labels are unmarked with just a hint of a spindle mark. On play grading there was a little light crackle on the run in on both sides but nothing substantial, maybe a rare pop or click (certainly nothing to spoil the enjoyment of the record - even at high volume), during the remainder of the album. It plays superbly with very strong audio. The surface is very clean, glossy and shiny with no noticeable marks, a superb copy that conservatively grades as EX+.
