Description

This is a set of 12" 78RPM acetate transcriptions of a concert given on May 21, 1948 at the Juilliard School in New York, in collaboration with the International Society for Contemporary Music.  There were two works played: Alban Berg's Concerto for Piano, Violin and 13 winds, with soloists Eduard Steuermann, piano, and Louis Krasner, violin.  The second work was a complete staged performance of Stravinsky's Histoire du Soldat.  Both were conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos who, with the orchestra members, took part in the staging of the work..  The Berg is on 10 sides, the Stravinsky on 15.   It is a professionally made copy for the bassoonist and has Juilliard labels.   The sides are continuous and on pitch.   The discs are in mint condition and the sound is excellent.   Included is a copy of the actual printed program.   This may be the only surviving set of transcriptions of this concert.  The concert is described on Page 223 of the Mitropoulos biography "Priest of Muaic."   Winning bidder will be shipped set by registered mail.
