Description
Pretty amazing estate sale find this week, a Monarch Chinese 78 from the early 1900's. Record is very close to E-/V+ condition. Very clean with only two minor scratches less than to about 1" in length (I could not hear either during playback) and a small nick that caused a couple of pops during play, no skips whatsoever. The inner label is also in superb condition with only a little wear around the spindle hole. While playing the record I was surprised how little noise there was playing it with only a light cleaning. The vocals do peak a few times, but you can hear the entire track for yourself below. Please see the image below with a link to the actual recording of the track underneath the image. To record I use a Dual 1219 with a Grado Black 78 cartridge. This is considered to only be representative of the actual sound quality of the record giving you a chance to hear before the side to judge for yourself.
Please see high-res photos for more detail. I took one with indirect sunlight and one with direct sunlight (just a second or two) to provide the best possible detail plus a closeup of the inner label.
A note about playing the tracks below. You'll need to have a later browser version, if you don't see the players at all you might upgrade your browser. I have tested in Internet Explorer, FireFox and Chrome (all modern browsers are supposed to work) but found Chrome at times did not play the entire track where Internet Explorer and FireFox would. If you just cannot get it to work please message me and I will get you the track to you.
Please feel free to ask questions, I'll answer them as promptly as possible. For things like more or alternate photos, questions about the photos, etc. please feel free to ask.
A note about shipping this item: Shipping will require full insurance and has been factored into the cost. I will ship internationally but this will be costly as I need to use International Priority Mail and will insure and declare the package for the full amount; if you are interested in international shipping please DO NOT ASK FOR ANY OTHER MEANS OF SHIPPING as I will not support any other means.
I will package this in a 12 x 12 x 6 box with foam on the bottom, a layer of bubble wrap, 12 x 12 filler pads (three bottom, three top) another piece of bubble wrap and packing peanuts on top. I have shipped numerous 78's without any issues to date.
