Mono Rays - Unemployment Check / By Myself - This is two unknown doo wop / R&B recordings on a 10" 78 RPM acetate. "Unemployment Check" is an uptempo tune and "By Myself" is a ballad.  I have checked everywhere and can find no information on these two recordings other than what is on the label of the acetate.  These two tracks were recorded at Audio Recording Studios in Cleveland, Ohio.  Since this acetate was found in the Youngstown/Cleveland area of Northeast Ohio, I am speculating that the group responsible is likely the Monorays from Youngstown, Ohio.  The Monorays were a doo wop/R&B group best known for the 45 "Five Minutes To Love You"/"My Guardian Angel" on the Tammy label out of Youngstown, Ohio.  The surface is very scuffed up and I would say Side One looks G but plays VG-.  There are a couple of tiny spots where the surface is missing on the lead in before the groove starts and you can see a little metal exposed.  This does not affect play because it is not on the playing surface.  Side Two looks G+ but plays G.  When you listen to the Side Two clip you will hear it start, then start again.  That is because I sat the needle down twice thinking it hadn't landed in the right spot the first time.  I could have redone it all but due to the fragile nature of acetates, I didn't want to add any unnecessary wear recording it again.  LISTEN to both recordings.  This will be shipped in a deep box with lots of packing materials to protect it.

For listings that say LISTEN at the end, the sound clip has been recorded and posted without any filters being applied.  In other words, clicks, pops and other surface noises have not been removed.  This gives you an opportunity to hear whatever imperfections are present.  Also, I do not grade anything as Mint.  M- is my highest grade and an M- grade will often be Mint by the standards used by others.

Things should get better now that the Christmas rush is over but please be advised of possible current shipping delays.  Most packages are arriving quickly as they always have but due to pandemic related issues with the U.S. and International post office delivery systems, your package may be delayed.    I recently received notice of a delivery to an address 300 miles away and the delivery took four weeks.  Overseas can take several months in rare cases.  I have a couple packages now in the country they were addressed to but the post offices there apparently aren't delivering with any deliberate speed.  I ask your patience when I have done my part and shipped next day but your package gets jammed up in the postal system.  January 5, 2021 update:  The timely delivery of packages to U.S. addresses now seems to be nearly normal.  International orders to some nations are reaching their destination a little sooner than in the past so I am hopeful that the improvement will continue.  

Postage in the U.S. is $4.00 for U.S. Post Office Media Mail.  I will combine multiple items to save on postage - each additional LP or 78 will cost an extra 50 cents ($4.50 total for two, $5.00 total for three).  International shipping rates are listed below.

All records are in plain paper sleeves unless pictured in a company sleeve or picture sleeve.  All records are mailed between two pieces of cardboard placed inside a cardboard mailer made specifically for shipping records.
