Two teen-aged brothers, Lee and Kenny Bozeman of Selma formed a local rock band "Moon Dawgs" in Selma with their first cousin, Gene Daniels and friend, Charlie Worrell, in the mid-1960s. After high school graduation, Gene Daniels joined the Army and was sent to Vietnam, so the group needed a bass player. Enter Gene Clarke, a classmate of Lee's and Kenny's at Livingston University. It was decided that Gene Clarke would play keyboards and Kenny would move from drums to bass. They played many gigs around the Selma and central Alabama area
