Description
Moondog Moondog
Moondog, was born Louis Thomas Hardin on May 26,1916 and died September 9, 1999. Blinded at the age of 16, he was a musicaljack of all trades – he composed, played various instruments (many of which heinvented) and performed. His music touched classical, jazz and native Americanthemes. For years he busked on thestreets of New York, bearded, long-haired and sometimes donning a Vikinghelmet, complete with horns. Writing about him in a single paragraph does the man a colossaldisservice.
Both Stephen Reich and Phillip Glass have citedhim as being a major influence on their musical styles. The first Big Brother& the Holding Company (with Janis Joplin) covered his song, “All IsLonliness.” Many bands wrote music eitherdedicated to or referencing him including Pentangle, T.Rex, Prefab Sprout, andjazz organist, Jimmy McGriff. Herecorded over fifteen albums for various labels.
This is a sealed copy of his album, Moondog, originally released in 1969.
It is the Columbia reissue released on white vinyl for Record Store Day in 2017.
