Here is a very rare ORIGINAL Moonglows 45 - Baby Please b/w Whistle My Love - Chance 1147 on Red Wax from 1953!!! Their second commercial release and their first on the Chance label!! Not in the best of shape- I'd say visually, according to Goldmine grading standards it is probably VG minus, it does have a fair amount of scuffing and light surface scratches but retains a good amount of the original surface gloss.. There appears to be nothing deep and both sides play through without skipping. The "Baby Please" side plays with a moderate amount of "hash" but the music comes through clearly and is surprisingly undistorted. The "Whistle" side is a little noisier but still plays through and the music is not buried in noise. I played this on a Technics SL-D2 turntable tracking at 1.25 grams and used 2 different Audio Technica cartridges to see the effect of the different stylus profiles. The better quality elliptical tip plays with noticeably less noise than the entry level spherical tip. The record also has a moderate warp that can be seen during play --but is not an abrupt "bump" so it does not induce skipping or mistracking. Basically it is well used but is by no means a trashed, unplayable copy. However it is not an ultimate, super clean collectors copy either- but it still is a very nice acquisition--especially when you consider how seldom these are seen. We played this through a high end tube integrated amplifier and Duntech PCL-15 speakers so it might actually sound smoother and cleaner through a lower resolution, mass-market audio system. The labels have light to moderate wear both sides have the usual dirt ring. The Baby Please side has a name written on the label and also has residue from a sticker. The Whistle side has a small written number and also white sticker- I will leave it up to the new owner to remove this if he or she opts to do so. Numbers etched in dead wax area are 45-5059 87 and 45-5060 87. I checked Popsike and they show only 2 legit red wax copies sold since 2006. A VG+ copy sold in Nov 2006 for $2,550.00 and a "playable" copy sold in Sept 2009 for $1,107.00. This 45 is guaranteed to be as described, however, as different turntables, cartridges and styli can and will produce different playback results we are selling this rare 45 AS-IS with no return privilege.
