Impossible to find still-sealed copy of this highly recommended late 60s or early 70s lp, the first stereo issue of these seminal 1950s recordings of Feldman's beautiful experimental works. The composer used graphic notation combined with calculated doses of indeterminacy to create semi-open-form pieces which allow the performers to choose time and pitch intervals as they play. Features David Tudor (one of his earliest recordings), Russell Sherman, Edwin Hymovitz, and Feldman himself on piano, Walter Trampler on viola, Matthew Raimondi and Joseph Rabushka on violin, and Seymour Barab on cello.

Morton Feldman studied under Wallingford Riegger and Stefan Wolpe and was influenced by Scriabin, Ligeti, Cornelius Cardew, and Mauricio Kagel; he became a key member of the New York School of experimental American composers (John Cage, Earle Brown, David Tudor, Christian Wolff), was one of the first composers to use graphic notation (a technique influenced by his many close friends in the visual arts such as Mark Rothko, Philip Guston, Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock, and Robert Rauschenberg), and he also pioneered the use of indeterminacy. Tudor studied under Stefan Wolpe, Irma Wolpe, and William Hawke and worked with John Cage, Earle Brown, Morton Feldman, Christian Wolff, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Mauricio Kagel, and Pierre Boulez.
