Description
It could be successfully argued that Gerry Mulligan was the Godfather of West Coast Jazz, and that his success led to the founding of the Pacific Jazz record label. The absence of chord instruments was innovative, as was the use of a baritone sax as a lead instrument; the introduction Chet Baker’s distinctive horn to the jazz world had major impact, and still mesmerizes listeners even today.
This 5-LP boxed set by Mosaic Records contains all of the original Gerry Mulligan Quartet and Tentette groups with Chet Baker recordings on Pacific Jazz and Capitol Records, the notes booklet and errata sheet. The set is number 1382/7500 copies released, which makes it relatively scarce. The records are in VG++ condition, as is the box. All box corners are intact, as is the hinge. There are minor shelving scuffs on the front cover edges. The booklet is in Near Mint condition. There are no rips, tears, gouges or extraneous markings on any of these elements. I hear minor crackling between cuts and perhaps the records could stand a good cleaning, even though they have been well-cared for. There are no spindle marks on the labels and no obvious scratches or scuffs on the vinyl. Sorry about the flash bloom in one of the photos.
I am not a record dealer, but have done some research on record grading. According to the Goldmine guides, these records appear to be in an overall VG++ condition. I can't see any scratches or other marks, but there is some minor crackle when played. Perhaps they just need a thorough cleaning. Bonus item included with purchase!
