Description

Charles Munch & The Boston - Saint-Saens SYMPHONY No. 3 (Organ) - 4 Disc Classic Set (45RPM) - Rca LSC-2341 - VERY BEST!!

Right from the start it was deemed a "Stereo Spectacular." Mohr and Layton performed their usual magic, Zamkochian gave life to the organ, and the BSO, as always, gave their utmost to the man they so revered at baton.

And, yes, know straight-out, I am a fan of maestro Munch---and if there is a better Saint-Saens 3rd I do not know of it.

That said, this 4-disc set indeed captures everything the original master tapes had to offer, way more than the 1s/1s original could muster, what with the 33.3 shortened signal path.

Each disc here, in fact, is pressed one side only, harboring a movement, and at 45 rpm will stretch out the data path so a goodly number of things begin to happen. Greater headroom. Easier to trace. A much greater sense of openness…presence…space…ambience…plus, every last bit of inner workings of the orchestra, pianos and organ.

End result?

Welcome to Symphony Hall, Boston, my friends.

Note that this copy is like new in every way, nothing untoward at all; near mint and better in the playing. From an audiophile's collection.

Last note, please:

Much is made of the Living Stereo catalog, as it is chock full of many classics, all produced during stereo's halcyon days of better pressings. This 2341 is indeed Bernie Grundman's favorite, in the entire catalog, and so that was reason enough for him to insist that he do the re-mastering of this set, for Classic, which, rumor has it, went way over budget, taking every last bit of forever to complete.

I mention this, because I don't think you're going to mind at all just how much time Mr. Grundman spent burning midnight oil.

Light a candle or two, yourself...after you get the volume right...the way to Heaven softly lit....
