Description

The Music Never Stopped: Roots of the Grateful Dead. The numbered limited-edition picture disc on Shanachie (6014, 1995), still factory sealed with its numbered hype sticker (No. 02185). Featuring the instantly recognizable Robert Crumb cover artwork.

This acclaimed collection gathers the original versions of songs the Grateful Dead covered and made their own across their career — compiled by Dead insiders Henry Kaiser, David Gans, and others with the band's support. Tracks include Obray Ramsey "Rain and Snow," Merle Haggard "Mama Tried," Dixie Cups "Iko Iko," Rev. Gary Davis "Samson & Delilah," Cannon's Jug Stompers "Big Railroad Blues," Marty Robbins "El Paso," Bob Dylan "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue," Charley Patton "Spoonful," Howlin' Wolf "The Red Rooster," Chuck Berry "The Promised Land," Jimmy Reed "Big Boss Man," and Bobby "Blue" Bland "Turn On Your Love Light."

Collector's note: this numbered 1995 picture disc contains the complete tracklist, the later standard black-vinyl reissue dropped four songs, so the picture disc is the one to have for the full program. The Robert Crumb artwork makes it a crossover piece for both Deadheads and underground-comix art collectors.

Condition: VG+/NM with the numbered limited-edition sticker on the shrink.
