Description
Folkways Library FE 4352. 1965. Traditional Viet Nam music played on traditional instruments. Plays well. Cover has white stain at head and soiling in general. No longer has the descriptive notes.
This album from 1965 is a survey of traditional music in Vietnam. The first half presents the music of the “pre-Vietnamese” highland Degar (also called Montagnard) and Cham, two ethnic minorities of the region. The second half covers the music of the ethnic Vietnamese, with traditional chamber music, the music of the ancient imperial courts, and folk songs. The selections were recorded by the venerable Vietnamese songwriter and musicologist Ph?m Duy, who also wrote and performs three of the tracks. Liner notes include photographs and background information on the songs.
