Description

Brand new / unplayed copy of this very rare and controversial split LP between USA's black metal cults NACHTMYSTIUM and LEVIATHAN.  There was a dispute between the artists when this was in production, and Leviathan's Wrest started making claims that the release "had been canceled", but the label was well into production and had paid for everything many months before these claims started circulating, and had also paid the artists each a large advance for the release, so they forged forward with the pressing as to not lose thousands of dollars in production costs.  The label did however scale the pressing back from 500 LP's to a mere 100 units on black vinyl, due to the spat and wanting to try to make everyone happy without losing more money over something stupid.

This copy is #054 / 100, hand-numbered.  It's pressed on thick black vinyl, includes an 11x17" folded promotional poster, a circular (4" in diameter) embroidered "Never Stop The Madness" campaign patch, a 2.75 x 4.0" Leviathan logo patch (white on black) and a 3.0 x 4.0" Nachtmystium logo patch (white on black - the bands original logo too, btw)  Very nice package all around.  Jacket is thick stock and printed in full color with a matte finish.

**ALSO INCLUDED: A free promo CD copy of NACHTMYSTIUM's previously-unreleased / long-lost 2001 studio LP (recorded two months before their proper debut LP, "Reign of the Malicious", in February, 2001) that was finally released on CD / cassette in 2018 titled "Ancient Howls of Dawning Fury".   This 9 track CD features the 5 tracks that were the originally intended tracks for the "Reign of the Malicious" debut LP (different tracks were recorded than the tracklisting on the actual "ROTM" LP), this included three tracks that did get re-recorded / made the cut for the final album, but also there are two re-recordings of demo tracks "Infernal Fury" & "Under The Horns of Darkness" that were on the originally planned LP's track-listing.  The band decided to scrap this recording two months after completing it, sighting (at the time) that the recording was "too polished / digital sounding" for their debut albums intended-sound.  So, they went back to their rehearsal room and scrapped the fancy digital equipment this record was made on for their Tascam 4 track tape recording machine(s) and re-recorded the album that's been out / known as "Reign of the Malicious" for the last 18 years.  This is an interesting recording from Nachtmystium, as it's the only 'pro' / studio recording the band ever did between 2000 and 2007's "Worldfall" EP, which was the first time since this 2001 unreleased recording that the band returned to a professional / non-DIY studio situation.   Really neat bonus item for any Nachtmystium fan!   Also includes bonus tracks "Keep Them Open" (original recording from 2004 / split 7" EP with Krieg release - features MKM / ANTAEUS on guest vocals), the original demo recording of Nachtmystium's legendary track "Ashes to Ashes", from the 'Demise' writing / prepping rehearsals in July, 2003, and finally the bands 2013 cover of BURZUM's "Det Som Engang Var" legendary track.  (this song, ironically, is also the opening track to the A-side of the Nachtmystium / Leviathan split LP - it only appears on the vinyl / cassette versions of the split, however, as it's a bonus track on this CD release.)  Cool bonus stuff for fans of the band!

Both bands contributed cover songs by similar / the same artists they'd both been highly influenced by and had covered over the years, as this split is (as the title states) 'an ode to the roots'.
