VERY RARE - An extremely difficult album to find as a COMPLETE UK ORIGINAL FIRST ISSUE VERY EARLY PRESSING. This was not, at the time, Neil Young’s ‘finest hour’ in commercial terms so unlike many of his previous albums it did not sell well on first release and consequently first or very early pressings are hard to find these days. However, commercial success is never a reliable indicator of artistic achievement or quality and, with hindsight; it is widely regarded as a masterpiece. This particular example with its detailed matrices, stampers and ‘run off’ text is said by many collectors to be a FIRST PRESSING, and I would not argue with that because it was certainly pressed in the year of release, 1975, and it has convincing first press characteristics, but I have also seen an A1 B1 UK pressing of this album so I err on the side of caution and prefer to describe this as a VERY EARLY PRESSING. Also, it has the ELLUSIVE FOLD-OUT INSERT which only accompanied FIRST ISSUE albums and further increases the likelihood of it being a FIRST PRESSING. So, this is a LOVELY UK ORIGINAL ALBUM, with FIRST OR VERY EARLY MATRICES & STAMPERS on a LOVELY MID-WEIGHT VINYL with the REPRISE LIGHTLY TEXTURED TAN LABELS which do NOT HAVE THE ‘CIRCLED’ WARNER LOGO on the outer perimeter - this appeared on later Warner Company releases and re-issues . It has the first Shorewood GATEFOLD WITH SOFT TEXTURED OUTER SURFACES and smoother ‘blurred image’ centre spread plus the MATT SOFT TEXTURED FINISH PICTURE INNER SLEEVE, printed in U.K., showing Neil Young on one side and his fellow musicians on the other side. Overall an excellent opportunity to buy a great album that was rare on first release and is much rarer now.
