How is it that I can offer an unplayed jazz album that’s been around for 60 years? Well, it was unearthed at the Hart record auction. For those of you who don’t know, Hart Callender ran a couple of St. Paul record stores until he was incapacitated in 1951. On his instructions, the entire inventory was locked up until his passing in 1996. The next year, the lot was sold to Smith Auction and went under the gavel. This record, along with about a quarter of a million others, traded hands that Labor Day weekend.
The one you’re looking at is called “Cab Calloway and His Orchestra”, Brunswick # B-1004 ©1943. It consists of four (4) 10” diameter, 78 rpm records numbered 8015, 8016, 8017 and 8018. The sides are “Minnie the Moocher”, “Kickin’ the Gong Around”, “St. Louis Blues”, “(I’ll Be Glad When You’re Dead) “You Rascal You”, “Some of These Days”, “St. James Infirmary” and “Nobody’s Sweetheart”. The beautiful album folder is finished in red cloth with silver foil lettering. Still protected by its original brown paper cover, there is only the slightest rubbing wear to the corners and edges. The 6-page libretto is in new condition. Otherwise, pristine condition throughout. Remember, these are virginal, unplayed records.
