Nick Drake – Five Leaves Left – Original 1969 UK Pink Island LP

I have decided to sell my record collection which has been accumulated over many years. There will be many more of Progressive Rock, Folk, etc listed in the coming days/weeks.

Here I am offering for sale a very rare vinyl LP by Nick Drake titled ‘Five Leaves Left’ ILPS 9105

To say this LP is rare is of course an understatement, and it is perhaps one of the most sought after LP’s from the Pink Island stable, and probably the rarest of Nick Drake’s UK Pink Island pressings. Purists and collectors would either already own this wonderful masterpiece of soft English summer folk, or yearn to have it in their collection. Some still dispute which LP is Drake’s most celebrated release, Pink Moon or Five Leaves Left. Personally I believe all his official releases are an outstanding legacy of fabulous music which has been left for many generations to enjoy.

This LP is indispensable addition to any record collection and is most certainly a ‘must’ for any Nick Drake, Pink Island, or other collectors of rare British folk LP’s. This LP is the original 1st pressing on the Black block label variation. It is on par with the rarest UK vinyl LP’s including, Vertigo Swirl, Atlantic Plum, Decca, Deram and of course the first ‘eye’ label from Island Records.

I have played the album recently on an upmarket deck. It is in EX condition and each song is crisp with absolute minimal noise. There is no sound distortion whatsoever and the vinyl itself is in THAT good a condition!... with absolute minimal or no unwanted noise for a record of this age!

On observation of the vinyl, noticeable are two very small surface marks at the beginning of track 1 on side 1 which do not sound when playing. The rest of the vinyl is absolutely free of surface marks - and no ‘breakfast- frying’ during, or between tracks! To hold an LP 41 years old and as rare as this in such awesome condition is for many a once in a lifetime chance and indeed a privilege.

The label of Side 1 is free of marks and clean. However, there is a small ink mark on the label of side 2 (perhaps a previous owner’s initials?, in red ink which tries to blend itself in with the pink label?). There is the slightest wear to the side 2 label but again so very, very minimal. (see image of side 2 label).

Regardless of these slightest of imperfections (and they really are slight)… they do not hinder the clarity of the distinctive Pink and Black ‘block’ label whatsoever. I just feel I have to mention these minimal faults because I believe in treating others the way you wish to be treated yourself. I really do feel as if I’m cutting my own throat here and being extremely harsh and too critical of the description of this LP.

The sleeve I would describe as ‘good +’ with the usual wear indicative of some covers produced during this era which were fragile when produced. However, there is absolutely no ink or writing of any kind on the cover but, there is as indentation along the front photograph of Nick, and seems that an implement has absentmindedly been ‘dragged’ along it but the cover has no writing/ink, or is not torn or ripped in any way.  

In my honest opinion, and I have seen this LP sell for extortionate sums,  and unless you want to pay these kind of sums for “Five Leaves Left” this original pressing will most definitely be a welcome addition to any collection. I have seen this LP sell on eBay in relatively poor condition for ridiculous prices, this one is absolutely not!
