·       NICK DRAKE – MONSTRULOUSLY RARE, ORIGINAL, 1971 SELF-TITLED FIRST ALBUM (“NICK DRAKE”) RELEASED IN THIS FORM AND WITH THIS COVER ONLY IN THE UNITED STATES AND ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NOWHERE ELSE!!! – ORIGINAL ISLAND RECORDS (DISTRBUTED BY CAPITOL) 1971 STEREO LP SMAS-9307

·       ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING

*** STILL SEALED GUARANTEED ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING ***

·    BY FAR THE RAREST NICK DRAKE STUDIO ALBUM IN EXISTENCE!

·       THIS ALBUM IS A COMPOSITE OF NICK DRAKE’S FIRST TWO BRITISH ALBUMS (FIVE LEAVES LEFT AND BRYTER LAYTER) ; THE ALBUM SOLD MISERABLY AND WAS ALMOST INSTANTLY DELETED FROM THE ISLAND/CAPITOL CATALOG; ALMOST ALL KNOWN COPIES ARE PROMO-COPIES (SUCH AS THE ONE WE HAVE HERE) WITH A CAPITOL-STYLE PROMO PUNCH HOLE IN ONE CORNER.

·       ONE OF ONLY TWO NICK DRAKE ALBUMS RELEASED IN UNITED STATES IN HIS LIFETIME (THE OTHER BEING ‘PINK MOON’); OFFICIAL U.S. RELEASE OF NICK DRAKE’S FIRST TWO ALBUMS (FIVE LEAVES LEFT AND BRYTER LAYTER) DID NOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL 1976!!!

·       NOTE: THIS IS THE ORIGINAL PRESSING OF THIS ALBUM, RELEASED WHILE ISLAND RECORDS WAS STILL IN ITS INFANCY AND DISTRIBUTED BY CAPITOL RECORDS, AND STILL BEARING THE CHARACTERISTIC CAPITOL RECORDS CATALOG NUMBER (SMAS-9307)

·       BELIEVED TO BE PRESSED ON THE ORIGINAL WHITE ISLAND LABEL WITH A “DESERT ISLAND” LOGO, “DISTRIBUTED BY CAPITOL RECORDS” INSCRIPTION ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE LABEL, AND PINK RIM ALONG THE LABEL’S EDGE (NO OTHER PRESSINGS OF THIS ALBUM EXIST)

·       THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.

·       ORIGINAL GATEFOLD COVER, MADE OF THICK CARDBOARD (AMERICAN STYLE)

·       INCLUDES ORIGINAL TURQUOISE STOCK INNER SLEEVE WHICH WAS IN USE BETWEEN 1970 AND 1972 SUCH AS THE ONE SHOWN BELOW, FROM OUR PREVIOUS AUCTION (WE CAN SEE IT THROUGH THE CUTOUT HOLE)

·       THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING

·       This album has NEVER been available on legitimate Compact Disc or in any other way, manner or format.

(►PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE OF THE COVER, LABEL OR BOTH, SHOWN BELOW)

(Note: this is a REAL image of the ACTUAL item you are bidding on. This is NOT a "recycled" image from our previous auction. What you see is what you’ll get. GUARANTEED!)

♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫

A great first album by the troubadour of love, grace and infinite sadness, “Nick Drake” was released originally in 1971 ONLY IN THE UNITED STATES IN THIS FORM, to very little critical and zero popular interest and disappeared from the market without a trace. Finding a still sealed original copy?!?! Forget it – not even a HOPE!!! This may be the last one you will ever see.

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)            THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID)

(b)            The record comes in its original turquoise (blue-green) Island stock inner sleeve, SUCH AS THE ONE SHOWN BELOW, FROM OUR PREVIOUS AUCTION (we can actually see it through the small cutout hole).

(c)             The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(e)             THE VINYL IS ABSOLUTELY, PERFECTLY MINT, as if never played before. The original luster is totally intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles like brand new. The labels look perfect, simply gorgeous, with absolutely no trace of wear around the spindle hole. The record is TOTAL PERFECTION - ABSOLUTE VISUAL NIRVANA! We are confident that, in this condition, the record we present here is truly once-in-a-lifetime find.

(f)              The record is STILL in its original poly-lined stock inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the vinyl from the harmful impact of elements over many years!

(g)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(h)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

(i)              In addition, the record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, vinyl (one of the nicest pressings of this album we’ve ever seen)

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NEAR MINT (which is very unusual for flimsy UK covers which are usually extremely susceptible to wear and tear)!

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.

-         The cover has a single, but long, razor-like line (cut) lines on the cover, as if someone attempted to cut away the shrink wrap with a razor, but inadvertently left the mark on the cover as well. The paper slick is intact and no part is missing, but the line is visible.

-         Back cover has a small original price sticker, which may be possible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to)

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-         No split seams

-         No ring wear

-         No cut-out (drill) holes.

-         No cut-out corners

-         No saw-marks or indents

-         No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-         No wrinkles or creases

-         No writing

-         No stamps

-         No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-         No peel-off marks

-         No stains

-         No mold or mildew spots

-         No stickers or labels

-         No water damage

-         No warping

-         No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-         No bar codes

-         No RIAA stamps or stickers.
