NICK DRAKE s/t original 1971 Island Pink Rim Folk Psych lp TOP AUDIO! M-

1971/USA/Island SMAS-9307….. here’s a clean original US pressing of this rare folk psych lp. The thick heavy gatefold cover is in solid  condition with a delete hole near the left edge of the cover, heavy wear top seam and spine on left corner(see pics) light corner bumps/wear, light shelf wear/soiling, otherwise clean and solid with no splits. The vinyl is in glossy M- condition. The record looks and plays clean from start to finish with nice crisp clean fidelity. I don’t think it had been played before I played it.  Labels are clean but side 2 label is a bit dark on the right side. Includes the original blue inner sleeve, it has a partial delete hole on the edge and a split is just starting bottom center seam, otherwise fine. A rare and excellent lp! A singular talent who passed almost unnoticed during his brief lifetime, Nick Drake produced several albums of chilling, somber beauty. With hindsight, these have come to be recognized as peak achievements of both the British folk-rock scene and the entire rock singer/songwriter genre. Sometimes compared to Van Morrison, Drake in fact resembled Donovan much more in his breathy vocals, strong melodies, and the acoustic-based orchestral sweep of his arrangements. His was a much darker vision than Donovan's, however, with disturbing themes of melancholy, failed romance, mortality, and depression lurking just beneath, or even well above, the surface. Ironically, Drake has achieved a far greater stature in the decades following his death, with an avid cult following that grows by the year. In the manner of the young Romantic poets of the 19th century who died before their time, Drake is revered by many listeners today, with a following that spans generations. Baby boomers who missed him the first time around found much to revisit once they discovered him, and his pensive loneliness speaks directly to contemporary alternative rockers who share his sense of morose alienation.

GRADING

MINT: I consider New Unplayed or Sealed items only.

M- or Mint Minus, very clean with clean visual appearance and sound, there may be a couple of light inaudible hairline scuffs or such and will be mentioned in the listing, a Mint- record looks and plays very clean. Same for the cover. Very clean with no delete or other issues.

EXCELLENT: still very collectable for most, visually and sonicly clean. A handful of light inaudible scuffs, or hairlines. Cover will be clean with little wear, or delete. No splits.

VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal wear, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much. Cover will have slight shelf wear, and or delete, minor split.

VG+ the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects.
