"George Evelyn delivers his full-length return - his first album since 2006's amazing 'In A Space Outta Sound'. This new collection of work from Warp's longest standing artist manages to represent both the downbeat productions he's renowned for, plus more vibrant, reggae-infused colours, as demonstrated by the aforementioned single, and album tracks like 'Still? Yes!', which slips into a sampled and filtered skanking groove and loiters there for three minutes of subtle tweaking and editing. Elsewhere, there's an authentically rough-edged funk influence, which sounds especially effective on 'Da Feelin' (a full-blooded party anthem by Evelyn's supremely laid back standards) and the slow, sticky wah-wah riffing of 'Moretime'. The album's centrepiece is the eight minute epic 'Calling', a dreamlike synth string drift-scape, featuring light, jazzy touches from flickering Rhodes piano and smatterings of hand-played percussion. A good, solid balance of moods and production styles, Thought So... doesn't stray too far from the established Nightmares On Wax formula, but nor does it sound like Evelyn's running out of ideas."
