on French-only MERCURY RECORDS rare issue # 154.664 mcf from vintage 1969

Now HERE’S a real GEM from the UK psych era - and it’s strange that it did not get a British release at all. No clue why that was, but at least it DID get issued somewhere!
Made famous and available to hear on ‘The Perfumed Garden’ psych compilation, the band are actually ‘The State Of Mickey And Tommy’, who were better known and sold on the continent.
It is, as The Tapestry If Delights calls it, a "slice of psychedelia", but I wonder if Joynson even heard the flip side at all, which is a comparably great number, and still different from the ‘A’ but almost as strong! It’s always great to find another 'double sider' out there, and that’s what this is!
Vocally, the harmony is powerful and exciting - and probably needs to be in order to front the barrage of instrumentation coming in behind! Not a heavy rock pounder by any means, way more subtle...even though a powerful assault on the ears is definitely an accusation that can be levelled here..but it’s in its’ favour. Certainly not toytown whimsical psych here, this is full blown psych.
Anyway, whenever you play this, you are sure to turn it over for both quality tracks - which is what we want really, it shouldn’t be too much to ask!
CONDITION of the vinyl here is VG+ for the ‘A’ side, with a couple of marks, one thin needle-mark. The flip is VG++ grade, light marks but surface and superficial. Both sides have loud production, and the music is to the forefront.
Lables are very clean, EX.
The picture sleeve cover is of card rather than light paper, so it has held up well and grades VG+ overall.
The filing title-tab at the opening edge is here, and that side has some general wear. The artwork is cool, and only shows light storage-type wear.
A top rarity of British psych!
