Paese, anno d’edizione : GIAPPONE - 19?? /2000 - sono molto incerto sul reale anno d'uscita. Dopo ore di vane ricerche e la traduzione delle note dell'album fatta dal mio genero Giapponese senza risultati, ho scritto sopra pur con diversi dubbi 2000 perchè SoundtrackCollector indica quell'anno anche se manca la foto del long playing / I am very uncertain about the true release year. After hours of fruitless research and the translation of the album's liner notes made ??by my Japanese son in law with no results, I have written above, although with some doubts, 2000, because SoundtrackCollector specifies that year even if there is no picture of this LP.

Condizioni : copertina quasi perfetta a parte un certo logorio con ritocco d'azzurro sull'estremità dell'angolo sinistro in alto. A tale proposito ho fatto una scansione del particolare ingrandendolo, immagine 5, per meglio rendere visibile il difetto. Obi, immagine 4, e l'inserto con 8 foto in b/n più varie note in Giapponese sono in perfetto stato. NEAR MINT / vinile suonato pochissime volte senza nessun problema per il perfetto ascolto, NEAR MINT

Condition : cover is nearly perfect except for some wear and a retouch of colour azure on the edge of the upper left corner. In this regard, I did a scan of this particular enlarging it, image 5, to better visualize the flaw. Obi, image 4, and insert with 8 photos in b / w and various notes in Japanese are in perfect condition. NEAR MINT / vinyl has been played very few times. No problem for the optimal listening, NEAR MINT

GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie vengono controllati sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i 33 giri in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1. Per EP e singoli a 45 giri utilizzo un Thorens TD 166 BC con testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All LPs in auction have been fully heard on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge. I listen EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : rispetto all'edizione USA o quella Tedesca, entrambe su etichetta Elektra, la copertina ha nel lato frontale un'immagine completamente differente così come nel retro. La stampa Giapponese contiene 17 tracce invece di 16 come nelle varie tirature Elektra.  Si tratta di "Hurricane" (a1) cantata da Lisa Lee. Tutti gli altri brani sono identici anche se alcuni di loro nell'album Giapponese sono posizionati differentemente. Il film è ambientato nelle isole della Polinesia Francese e a Samoa pertanto sia le sonorità locali che il fascino per l'esotico sono presenti nella musica di Rota che sapientemente alterna o combina con temi dalle caratteristiche occidentali. Fra i brani: "Joy of Love in Alava" (a2) inizialmente caratterizzata da una ben orchestrata atmosfera romantica interrotta da un mistico canto privo di parole compiute da parte di un coro femminile accompagnato da una buona chitarra. "Pago-Pago Jazz" (a6) e "Jazz in Dockland" (b6) sono basati su bella musica tradizionale jazz. Temi indigeni ricchi di percussività spesso molto insistente e ripetitiva si trovano in "Coronation Percussion" (a5), "Moana's Dance" (a7), "Moana's Death" (b3) e "Matangi's Escape" (b4). In quest'ultima le percussioni sono affiancate dagli strumenti a fiato. "End Title" (b9) ha una romantica atmosfera sottolineata da vocalizzi femminili in sottofondo ed è probabilmente la testimonianza più palese del bel incrocio fra musicalità esotica ed occidentale.

Notes : compared to US or German issues, both on Elektra label, the cover has a completely different picture on the front side as well as in the back. The Japanese release contains seventeen tracks instead of sixteen as in the various Elektra issues. This is  "Hurricane" (a1) sung by Lisa Lee. All other tracks are identical even if some of them are positioned differently in the Japanese album. The film is set in the French Polynesian islands and in Samoa therefore both native music and fascination for the exoticism are present in the score of Rota who cleverly alternates or combines with themes from Western peculiarities. Among the tracks: "Joy of Love in Alava" (a2) initially characterized by a well-orchestrated romantic theme interrupted by a mystical wordless chant performed by a female chorus accompanied by a good guitar. "Pago-Pago Jazz" (a6) and "Jazz in Dockland" (b6) are based on beautiful old time jazz music. Native themes full of percussiveness often very insistent and repetitive are in "Coronation Percussion" (a5), "Moana's Dance" (a7), "Moana's Death" (b3) and "Matangi's Escape" (b4). In the latter percussions are accompanied by wind instruments. "End Title" (b9) features a romantic atmosphere underlined by female vocalisms in the background and is probably the clearest evidence of the beautiful confluence between exotic musicality and Western sonorities.

Un film del genere catastrofico ma con ampi spazi per sentimento ed avventura. Remake dell'omonimo film di John Ford del 1937. Produzione Americana, regia di Jan Troell. Con Jason Robards, Mia Farrow, Timothy Bottoms, Trevor Howard, Max von Sydow.
